View into the past from the window of the main building of VSMU

This is how the modern city center looked after the barbaric bombing by Nazi Germany’s forces. Unique photographs, marking the 90th anniversary of the university, were donated to the Volgograd State Medical University (VSMU) History Museum by Larisa Gribina, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare at VSMU.
The photograph shows the destroyed building of the Stalingrad House of Light Industry. The structure was so severely damaged during the Battle of Stalingrad that it had to be demolished.
A similar fate befell other significant buildings in Stalingrad. The House of Aviators and the Aviators’ School – symbols of the country’s aviation power – were also destroyed. In their place, a new building for the Regional Party School was constructed in the 1950s, where Volgograd State Medical University is now located today.
